Wet sanding (Orange peel removal)

Even with a factory paint job there will be texture left behind from the painting process. If you are looking for that show room paint with the highest reflective mirrored finish then that texture will have to be removed. In order to remove this texture we first measure the paint over the entire vehicle so we get an idea of how much paint we have to work with. We use an orbital sander while (1500, 2000, 3000 and finish it with 5000 grit sanding disks) measuring the paint throughout the whole process. The purpose of this is to sand/remove just the tops of the little bumps or texture that you can see while leaving as much clear coat as possible (this makes it so the light that is hitting the paint is able to reflect straight back to your eye). We then finish it with either our premium or supreme paint correction. The end result being a flawless mirrored paint job. The wet sanding process can take anywhere from 8-20 hours depending on the hardness and condition of paint.

Frequently Asked Question

What is paint correction?

Paint correction refers to the process of removing surface imperfections from a vehicle’s paintwork, such as swirl marks, scratches, oxidation, and other blemishes. This is achieved through a meticulous process of leveling (or polishing) the paint using abrasive compounds and polishes to restore the paint’s original shine and smoothness.

How does paint correction differ from a simple polish or wax?

Unlike a basic polish or wax, which often only temporarily fill or cover up imperfections, paint correction aims to physically remove the flaws from the paint’s surface. This process can significantly improve the appearance of the paint, making it look as good as new or even better. Paint correction requires specialized equipment, products, and a high level of skill to achieve the desired results without damaging the paint.

How long does paint correction take?

The time required for paint correction can vary significantly depending on the vehicle’s size, the condition of the paint, and the level of correction desired. It can range from a few hours for minor corrections to several days for extensive restoration projects. Paint correction is a labor-intensive process that demands precision and patience.

Is paint correction permanent?

The results of paint correction are long-lasting, but not permanent. The longevity of the outcome depends on various factors, including how the vehicle is maintained, stored, and used. Regular maintenance, careful washing, and the application of protective layers like wax, sealants, or ceramic coatings can extend the durability of the correction.

Can all scratches and defects be removed with paint correction?

While paint correction can remove a wide range of imperfections, some deep scratches or damage may not be fully correctable without risking the integrity of the paint. In these cases, a professional may recommend other solutions, such as touch-up paint, a repaint of the affected area, or leaving the defect if removing it would compromise the vehicle’s paint thickness. A skilled technician will assess each imperfection to determine the best course of action.
