If you've been pricing out ceramic coatings, you've definitely run into the term "paint correction." And I want to be clear: it's not some add-on we tack on to pad the bill. It's the single most important step in the whole job. Skip it and you've basically wasted your money. So here's what it actually is.
What is paint correction?
Over time your paint picks up swirl marks, fine scratches, water spots, and oxidation — that hazy, spider-webbed look you catch under the sun or our shop lights. Paint correction is the machine-polishing process that removes all that and brings back a true, deep gloss. Done right, the paint honestly looks better than it did new.
Why it has to come first
A ceramic coating is clear, and it bonds to whatever's underneath it. So if we coat over your swirls, we don't hide them — we seal them in for years. Yikes. Correct first, then coat, and you're locking in a flawless surface that stays flawless.
One-stage vs. two-stage
One-stage (we call it paint enhancement) is a single polishing step that knocks out light defects and bumps the gloss — that's included with our 3-year ceramic package. Two-stage (full correction) adds a cutting step and then a refining polish to chase down the deeper stuff — that's in our 5-year and 7-year Feynlab packages. Which one you need comes down to how rough your paint is, and we'll tell you straight after we look at it.
Can't I just DIY it?
You can try — but machine polishing is really easy to get wrong. Too aggressive and you burn through the clear coat (expensive mistake). Too light and the defects just stay. The right pads, compounds, and technique for your specific paint is exactly where experience earns its keep.
